A person with a disability experiences a condition that results in impairment to their physical, including sensory and or mental functioning.

Physical disability is an impairment that involves either total or partial loss of body part or body function, including sensory impairments such as blind or deaf. Physical impairments that affect functioning can fall into one or more of the following broad categories:

*   Mobility and Physical Impairments

*   Spinal cord injuries – spinal cord disability

*   Head injuries – brain disability

*   Vision impairments / disability

*   Hearing impairments / disability

Intellectual disability is a more subjective determination than that employed in physical disabilities. This disability has been referred to as mental retardation in the past and the onset is prior to reaching the age of 18 years. It is diagnosed by a medical or mental health professional providing proof that the athlete has a limitation of mental function in two or more specific areas: Academic performance, communication skills, community living skills, the ability of the athletes to safely care for them, and their ability to live on their own are the standards against which the disability is assessed.

It is the mission of SANEF Schools to be as inclusive as possible regarding athletes who possess one of a broad range of physical and or intellectual disabilities.  They are therefore welcome to enter any of the classes offered by SANEF Schools as long as safety of the rider, horse and fellow competitors are taken into account.
